Adventure Background

Most citizens of the Hellens believe the Olympiad to be completely abandoned; nothing left of the Panthaiad’s majesty but corpses and ruins. To some degree, this is untrue. Besides the Overmind, Mornthus, the goddess Hestia still attends the old temples, as do her followers. However, the original wellsprings of ambrosia and manna have been buried under stone and dirt. Those who still live here require supplies from the world below. Mornthus allows the Hestiads to trade—but not with the people of the city-states, who might seek favor. So it falls to merchants from the farthest corners of the globe to make the journey to Olympia, laden with food and supplies to exchange for the artifacts and precious goods that the Hestiads still have to offer.

This year, in the northeastern port of Acrivorra, a bold panotus is planning his third voyage from the deck of the Wakepointe. After a bad run on his first year, Freschiotti Vuleuros reserves a space on his ship for skilled scouts and adventurers to supplement his guards. You have heard of Freschiotti’s deal—and of the fortune’s won by his last adventuring band, who were able to explore old Olympiad for treasure and plunder. Perhaps you wish to go to the Olympiad for such treasure. Or maybe you had your own reason to visit the lost Home of the Gods. In either case, you gather with the other would-be heroes at the docks on a warm July day, eager to prove to the master Vuleuros that you have what it takes to make the long, perilous journey to the center of the Hellenic world.
